Meet Our Team
Bill W. Shoptaw is the Founder and the Chairman of TSG. Mr. Shoptaw is responsible for helping raise equity capital and providing oversight of TSG’s investment activities and strategic direction. Mr. Shoptaw serves as a member of TSG’s Investment Committee.
Prior to founding TSG in 1997, Mr. Shoptaw served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Shoptaw-James, Inc., a commercial mortgage banking company that he co-founded in 1974 and sold in 1997. Under his leadership, Shoptaw-James, Inc. originated over $12 billion of mortgage loans for financial institutions and managed a mortgage servicing portfolio in excess of $1.2 billion.
Mr. Shoptaw was also a sponsor and founder of Main America Capital, L.L.C., a commercial mortgage lending and securitization company that originated in excess of $250 million in commercial mortgage loans; he served as CEO of Main America Capital, L.L.C. until its sale in 1998 to an affiliate of GMAC.
Mr. Shoptaw is a graduate of the School of Mortgage Banking sponsored by Northwestern University and the Atlanta Institute of Real Estate.
Walter B. Plyler is the President and Chief Executive Officer of TSG. Mr. Plyler has worked at TSG since 2008. Mr. Plyler leads TSG and the execution of its strategic direction. Mr. Plyler is responsible for directing all aspects of TSG’s investment activities, including raising equity capital, managing investor relations, sourcing and underwriting investments, and securing debt financings. Mr. Plyler serves as Chair of TSG’s Investment Committee.
Previously, Mr. Plyler served as a Vice President for Countrywide Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc., where he was involved in the origination, underwriting and securitization of over $2 billion in commercial real estate mortgages. Mr. Plyler also served as an Experienced Associate in the Assurance & Business Advisory practice of Arthur Andersen, LLP.
Mr. Plyler received a Bachelor of Science with Special Attainments in Commerce from Washington & Lee University where he majored in Business Administration and Accounting.
Jennifer L. O’Brien is the Chief Financial Officer of TSG. Ms. O’Brien has worked at TSG since 2018. Ms. O’Brien is responsible for directing all accounting, tax, audit and investor reporting matters for TSG and its affiliated multifamily investment funds and properties as well as managing corporate office operations including insurance, human resources and information technology. Ms. O’Brien serves a member of TSG’s Investment Committee.
Previously, Ms. O’Brien served as a Fund Controller at Jamestown, a national real estate owner/operator, where she oversaw the accounting for office, retail, mixed use, residential and timber closed-end real estate funds valued at approximately $1.5 billion. Prior to Jamestown, Ms. O’Brien was an auditor of private companies with Bennett Thrasher and Price Waterhouse Coopers.
Ms. O’Brien is a CPA and received her undergraduate degree in Accounting and Information Systems from Virginia Tech and a Master of Accounting from Kennesaw State University.
Tracy-Leigh N. Little is the Vice President of Accounting. Ms. Little has worked at TSG since 2001. Ms. Little is responsible for managing the accounting and reporting for TSG and its affiliated multifamily investment funds and properties, including financial statement preparation, cash management, lender reporting and corporate accounts payable and payroll. Additionally, she assists with TSG office administration, human resources, and information technology.
Previously, Ms. Little was the bookkeeper for a South African tourism company and emigrated to the United States in 1995, where she held the positions of junior and staff accountant in the medical, manufacturing and distribution industries. Ms. Little has over thirty years of accounting experience and has a diploma from the School of Bookkeeping and Accounting.
Kirk A. Whitehead is the Vice President of Investments. Mr. Whitehead has worked at TSG since 2014. Mr. Whitehead is responsible for leading the investment analysis process for all of TSG’s multifamily property acquisitions, in addition to coordinating all legal functions for TSG with property acquisitions, dispositions and financings. Mr. Whitehead serves as a member of TSG’s Investment Committee.
Previously, Mr. Whitehead served as an Investment Analyst for Global Endowment Management, where he was involved with growing and monitoring the $800 million Real Assets portfolio, which focused on real estate and energy investments. Mr. Whitehead also served as an Associate with Spartan Financial Partners, assisting with its lending portfolio.
Mr. Whitehead received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wofford College where he majored in Finance, with minors in Mathematics and Economics.
Paige P. Young is the Vice President of Asset Management. Ms. Young has worked at TSG since 2014. Ms. Young is responsible for providing asset management oversight of TSG’s multifamily investment portfolio, including executing strategic operating plans for its properties and working with its preferred third-party management companies. Ms. Young serves as a member of TSG’s Investment Committee.
Previously, Ms. Young served as an Assistant Community Manager for Fogelman Management Group and an Assistant Property Manager for Chastain, Jenkins and Leathers, LLC.
Ms. Young received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia where she majored in Housing with Residential Property Management Emphasis.
